The Twelve Aeons Revelation 21:14

The Twelve Aeons

Then Thomas said to him: "Lord, Savior, how many are the aeons of those who surpass the heavens?"
The perfect Savior said: "I praise you (pl.) because you ask about the great aeons, for your roots are in the infinities. Now when those whom I have discussed earlier were revealed, he provided ....

"Now when those whom I have discussed earlier were revealed, Self-begetter Father very soon created twelve aeons for retinue for the twelve angels. All these are perfect and good. The Sophia of Jesus Christ

In my study of the Aeons in the Odes of Solomon we have seen that the Patriarchs are themselves called Aeons

The Patriarchs were called Fathers of the Age." or the The Leader of the Age (or, World), "the days of the Fathers of the Age (or, World}."

in Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. These three Philo calls "measures of aeon, with Abraham began the aeon of Faith. Then after the aeon of Joy typified by Isaac, and the aeon of Hopeful Endurance typified by Jacob

Twelve is the number of orderly government

The patriarch Jacob had 12 sons, who became the foundations of the 12 tribes of Israel.

The names of the twelve sons of Jacob form a sentence, conveying an important message. Throughout the Scriptures they are set forth in various orders, changing the message of the names as this is done

  1. Reuben - behold a vision of a son; meta. understanding through seeing.
  2. Simeon - harkening, obeying; meta. understanding through hearing.
  3. Levi - joining, clinging; meta. the love faculty in human consciousness.
  4. Judah - praise Jehovah; meta. prayer and praise faculty.
  5. Issachar - he will bring reward, he who brings recompense; meta. activated zeal.
  6. Zebulum - habitation, dwelling; meta. order faculty.
  7. Joseph - Jehovah shall bring increase; meta. imagination. Joseph is the only one of this list of 12 who starts out on the mountain. He is the only clear cut symbolism in this first presentation and naturally be becomes the main character of the story because he really does symbolize a formulated awareness of one of the twelve powers, the one that almost all human beings first have an awareness of.
  8. Benjamin - son of good fortune; meta. active accomplishing faith.
  9. Dan - a judge; meta. judgment.
  10. Naphtah - wrestling; meta. elimination or renunciation.
  11. Gad - pertaining to good fortune; meta. power on.the physical plane.
  12. Ashar - straight forward; faculty of understanding.

Multiples of 12 are also sometimes significant. David established 24 divisions of the priesthood to serve by turn in the temple later built by Solomon. (1Ch 24:1-18) This assists in identifying the “twenty-four elders” who were seated round about God’s throne in white outer garments and who were wearing crowns. (Re 4:4)

Twelve therefore seems to represent a complete, balanced, divinely constituted arrangement. (Ge 35:22; 49:28) God chose 12 apostles, who form the secondary foundations of the New Jerusalem, built upon Jesus Christ. (Mt 10:2-4; Re 21:14) There are 12 tribes of “the sons of [spiritual] Israel,” each tribe consisting of 12,000 members.—Re 7:4-8.

The followers of Jesus Christ, his spiritual brothers, are promised kingship and priesthood with him in the kingdom. These elders could not be only the apostles, who numbered just 12. They therefore evidently represent the entire body of the “royal priesthood,” the 144,000 (as represented in the 24 priestly divisions serving at the temple) in their positions in the kingdom, as crowned kings and priests.—1Pe 2:9; Re 7:4-8; 20:6.

The Twelve Apostles Are a Type of the Aeons

Now when those whom I have discussed earlier were revealed, Self-begetter Father very soon created twelve aeons for retinue for the twelve angels. All these are perfect and good.

They are a type of the twelve disciples and the twelve pairs
The (First) Apocalypse of James

The twelve apostles are a type of the twelve Aeons "They are a type of the twelve disciples" the followers of valentinus identified the twelve apostles with a group of twelve Aeons in the pleroma:

25 The followers of Valentinus defined the Angel as a Logos having a message from Him who is. And, using the same terminology, they call the Aeons Logoi.
He says the Apostles were substituted for the twelve signs of the Zodiac, for, as birth is directed by them, so is rebirth by the Apostles.
(Extracts from the Works of Theodotus)

The heavenly bodies excited the interest of early man. It is obvious that astronomy was a subject in which Job had delighted (Job 9:9; 38:31-32; see also Amos 5:8). Gesenius suggests that the word Mazzaroth (Job 38:32) relates to the Zodiac, and this is supported by the margin of the A.V.

The twelve signs of the Zodiac, answering to the twelve months of the year, are connected with different seasons, and these, in turn, speak of Yahweh's purpose. For example, winter is often related to death, and springtime to resurrection

The Apostles were put in place of the twelve signs of the Zodiac as birth is governed by the signs so is rebirth governed by the Apostles

He chose the apostles with this view, that by means of them He might show forth the Aeons who are in the Pleroma
Irenaeus of Lyons

Christ the Verifier who stood as the sonship in their midst. this Christ bore twelve aspects which were manifest in the twelve apostles
The Untitled Text in the Bruce Codex

For this cause have I chosen you verily from the beginning through the First Mystery. Rejoice then and exult, for when I set out for the world, |
11. I brought from the beginning with me twelve powers, as I have told you from the beginning, which I have taken from the twelve saviours of the Treasury of the Light, according to the command of the First Mystery. These then I cast into the womb of your mothers, when I came into the world, that is those which are in your bodies to-day. For these powers have been given unto you before the whole world, because ye are they who will save the whole world, and that ye may be able to endure the threat of the rulers of the world and the pains of the world and its dangers and all its persecutions, which the rulers of the height will bring upon you Pistis Sophia chapter 7

the twelve apostles function as counterparts of the aeons they make up the body of truth or duodecad

Jesus saw the twelve as they first stood in the upper aeons, the twelve faculties of his own mind which expanded into the twelve aeons of the divine mind

The twelve aeons are the twelve attributes of the Christian faith which are faith 2 love  3 grace 4 peace 5 hope 6 knowledge 7 insight 8 obedience 9 forbarance 10 mercy 11 logos 12 Truth

These attributes are the 12 aeons which are enthroned at the twelve centers of consciousness, and there come to pass the words of Jesus : Verily I say unto you, that ye who have followed me, in the regeneration: when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

apostles--Those sent forth; messengers; ambassadors; active spiritual thoughts. Jesus conferred this title on the Twelve whom He sent forth to teach and to heal.

The primordial Man, Christ, has twelve powers of spiritual perception or mental ideas emanations from the Divine Mind these twelve powers or attributes are represented in the history of Jesus by the Twelve Apostles. So each of us has spiritual perception or attributes to make manifest, to bring out, and to use in the attainment of his ideals.

In order to command our powers and to bring them into unity of action, we must know what they are and their respective places on the staff of Being.

Jesus' twelve apostles were: Peter (faith); Andrew (Truth); James, son of Zebedee (hope); John (logos); Philip (grace); Bartholomew (insight); Thomas (knowledge); Matthew (peace); James (obedience); Simon the Cananaean (forbarance); Thaddaeus (love); and Matthias (mercy).

The Twelve Aeons, are the angelic figures of living creatures in Ezekiel and Revelation they are the “firstborn ”—divine beings angelic figures that are divided into groups of four, surrounding the Supreme Being in the the heavens. Rev 4:4,6,7 Ezekiel 1:5

The Aeons as realms or region or dimension

The word aeon means temporal sometimes a spatial concept in addition it is also used for personal beings whether spiritual or material

Now the divine Aeons are not in time and space the Aeons of Mother-Father they always have been and they are and they always will be as they are part of God just our thought or gnosis of the existence of the true Mother-Father brings about the creation of those things the beginning of those things for us you see but they always were those vital forces or those essences always existed

The Aeons are the principles that intervene between the transcendent Deity and the manifested universe. Generally these are conceived of as intermediary spatial realms above the material cosmos

Paul wrote, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is aeonian (2 Cor 4: 18). The word aeonian describes those things human eyes have not seen, and ears have not heard, because they belong to the unseen realm of the kingdom of God.

In the New Testament as we have it Jesus used the Greek word aeonios to describe this life; but without doubt the actual word he used was the Hebrew word olam. As we have seen the word olam implies time extending backwards or forwards to and beyond the time horizon into a realm that is hidden from our natural sight. It is the best that human language can do to describe a life that is invisible and unexplainable to the natural mind, that goes beyond all limits of time and space and that belongs not to the realm of earth, but to the kingdom of God.

They will receive you into aeonian dwellings (Luke 16: 9). We have a building from God, an aeonian house in heaven, not built by human hands (2 Cor 5: 1). I am going to prepare a place for you, so that you also may be where I am (John 14: 3). The natural mind thinks about living in a physical house made of brick or stone. Solomon even built a physical house of stone where God could live. Jesus did not go to prepare a mansion in the sky for his followers to enjoy after they died. Rather he prepared an invisible, spiritual place for them and us to inhabit immediately here and now.
